cPanel, one of the most widely used hosting control panels, today announced shifting to an account-based pricing and licensing structure. The new structure will be applicable to cPanel partners, cPanel Store customers and distributors. cPanel’s pricing and licensing structure will now be standardized for all the customers and will include multiple Tiers.
As stated in the cPanel mail that was sent to the partners and distributors today, the move is aimed to simplify the process of adding new servers and to make it easier for users to become a cPanel customer.
cPanel had defined its original pricing structure nearly twenty years ago and the hosting world has undergone complete transformation since then, with servers becoming powerful enough to run hundreds of websites on a single processor. The long-pending move will help cPanel align itself with the new hosting world.
The new structure defines the price of each license based on the number of accounts hosted on the server, reflecting the value received by the owner. The customers pay for only what they use. cPanel will start moving all its customers to monthly billing from today onwards. When yearly licenses will come up for renewal, cPanel will convert them to monthly licenses unless the customer chooses to have those licenses expired.
The prices seemingly lower for a single user, single cPanel, will be significantly higher for hosting providers and resellers, with prices being dependent on the number of cPanel accounts hosted per server. This may lead to rise in the prices of hosting services in the near future.
As per the mail, on September 1st, 2019, cPanel will also introduce Auto-Scaling Packages, Fixed Packages, and transition all existing monthly licenses to the new account-based pricing and licensing structure.
